  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. pumpkin
  • 2/3 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add unbeaten eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

    Combine pumpkin and buttermilk and add alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture.

    Blend well.

    Bake in well-greased, paper-lined 9-inch square pan for 45 minutes at 350°.
