- 2 c. cornmeal
- 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. dry yeast
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. melted shortening
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375° (350° if using glass pan).

2Mix and sift together first 5 ingredients.

3Add yeast, buttermilk and shortening for a thin batter.

4Mix lightly.

5Pour into greased loaf pan; bake 55 minutes.

6Cool on rack for 10 minutes.

7Remove from pan.

8Freezes well.

9If self-rising meal and flour are used; omit salt and soda.
