Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 lb. (1-inch) round steak, cut in 1 x 3-inch strips
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 c. vinegar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 3 whole peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 gingersnaps, crumbled

    Combine flour and salt, roll meat in mixture.

    Brown in hot oil.

    Add sliced onions, vinegar, water and sugar.

    Tie spices in small piece of cheesecloth and add.

    Cover and simmer gently about 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

    Remove spice bag.

    Add gingersnaps and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes or until gravy is thick.

    Yields 5 to 6 servings.
