  • 3 lb. beef shank, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 6 c. water
  • 2 c. canned whole tomatoes, smashed
  • 1/3 c. chopped onion
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 c. diced celery
  • 1 c. sliced carrots
  • 1 c. diced potatoes

Directions

    Brown meat removed from bone in hot oil or bacon grease.

    Add beans, water, tomatoes, onion and seasonings.

    Cover.

    Simmer 2 hours.

    Add vegetables; simmer until vegetables are soft.

    Remove bones and bay leaves before serving.
