- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
- 1 yeast cake, dissolved in 1/3 c. lukewarm water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. salt
- about 4 1/2 c. flour
- hot fat for frying
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup lukewarm water.

2Scald milk and, when cool, add dissolved yeast and rest of ingredients.

3Let rise until double in bulk.

4Place on board; roll out and cut.

5Let doughnuts rise about 3/4 hour and fry in hot fat.
