Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
  • 1 yeast cake, dissolved in 1/3 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • about 4 1/2 c. flour
  • hot fat for frying

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup lukewarm water.

    Scald milk and, when cool, add dissolved yeast and rest of ingredients.

    Let rise until double in bulk.

    Place on board; roll out and cut.

    Let doughnuts rise about 3/4 hour and fry in hot fat.
