  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. lard and butter, mixed
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 4 1/2 c. flour

Directions

    Pour 2 cups boiling water over raisins and boil 15 minutes. Take from stove and let cool, then add 1 cup cold water.

    Add remaining ingredients, raisins and water.

    Mix well.

    Grease cake pan and pour mixture into pan.

    Bake at 350° until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
