  • 3 c. cold water
  • 2 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. butter or lard
  • 1/2 c. cocoa (fill with hot water)
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves or allspice
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 5 c. flour (self-rising)

Directions

    Mix first 4 ingredients in a saucepan.

    Let boil 5 minutes, then partially cool.

    Mix in remaining ingredients.

    Bake until sides leave pan.

    Don't overbake.
