- 2 14 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 12 teaspoons salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons shortening, softened
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 12 cup raisins
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water.

2Stir in the salt, sugar, and shortening, plus 2 cups of flour and rolled oats.

3Beat this mixture for 3 minutes.

4Stir in the last 2 cups of flour and the raisins; mix till batter is smooth and satiny.

5Cover with a clean cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.

6Once doubled, stir down the batter while counting slowly to 15, then spoon the batter into 2 greased loaf pans; cover with a cloth, let rise before baking.

7Bake in a 350F oven for 50 minutes.
