- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk or 2 c. milk mixed with 2 Tbsp. vinegar
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 5 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 c. shortening
Directions

1In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water.

2Add buttermilk, sugar and salt and set aside.

3In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and soda, then cut in shortening until it resembles small peas.

4Add liquid ingredients and mix lightly, but do not knead the dough.

5Refrigerate overnight or up to 3 days.
