  • 3 to 4 lb. head of red cabbage
  • 5 to 6 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 to 4 apples, skinned and sliced
  • salt, sugar, vinegar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 to 4 whole cloves, ground
  • 1 to 2 whole allspice, ground

    Clean and chop red cabbage.

    Heat oil in large pan over medium heat and add cabbage and onion.

    Stir to coat cabbage.

    Add about 1/2 to 1/3 cups water and 2 to 3 tablespoons vinegar.

    Add the apples and spices; stir.

    Cover to let steam 70 to 90 minutes. Taste for salt, sugar and more vinegar.
