- 1 medium to large head red cabbage, sliced thin or shredded
- 2 apples, peeled in thin slices
- 1 large onion, cut in half
- salt and pepper
- 1/2 c. vinegar
- 1/2 c. sugar (for less tartness, add more)
- 2 cloves
Directions

1Soak cabbage in water (to cover) with 1 tablespoon of salt mixed in for 15 to 20 minutes.

2Rinse and drain well.

3Put in a large pot with no more water added.

4Put cloves in onion halves. Add to cabbage.

5Add all other ingredients.

6Let boil, then simmer, covered, for one hour.
