- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 oz. bottle red food coloring (1/4 c.)
- 2 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/4 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 2 eggs
Directions

1Mix butter, sugar and eggs.

2Make a paste of red coloring and cocoa.

3Add to creamed mixture.

4Add buttermilk, alternating with sifted flour and salt.

5Add vanilla.

6In small cup, mix soda and vinegar, then add to rest of mixture, blending instead of beating. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 350° in 2 (8-inch) greased and floured pans.
