Ingredients

  • 1 c hot water
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 1/2 lbs shortening
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 2 T lukewarm water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 3 3/4 c flour, sifted

Directions

    Combine hot water, salt, shortening and sugar.

    Cool to lukewarm.

    Add yeast to lukewarm water and let soften, the add to cooled mixture.

    Add beaten egg, half of the flour and beat well. Stir in more flour, enough to make dough easy to handle.

    Grease top of dough, cover with wax paper and a dish towel held by rubber bands.

    Store in refrigerator.
