Ingredients
- 1 cake yeast
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening (lard)
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- flour
- water
Directions

1Dissolve yeast, 1 teaspoon salt in 2 cups lukewarm water.

2Add enough flour to make sponge and let rise in warm place 2 hours. Cream together shortening and sugar.

3Beat in eggs.

4Add 2 cups flour alternating with 1 cup cold water.

5Combine with sponge mixture.

6Mix well.

7Knead in enough flour to make consistency of bread dough.

8Let rise twice, kneading down each time.

9Make into cloverleaf rolls.

10Let rise 2 hours.

11Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.

12Keep dough in refrigerator. Knead down each day.

13Use as desired.

14Yields 4 to 5 dozen rolls.
