- 1 (1 1/2 ounce) package yeast
- 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons shortening
- 1/2 cup buttermilk, lukewarm
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Directions

1Sprinkle yeast over 1/4 C lukewarm water, DO NOT STIR.

2Let stand 5-10 min, stir until yeast is dissolved.

3Sift dry ingredients together.

4Cut in Shortening.

5Stir in buttermilk and yeast.

6Shape into a ball on a lightly floured board.

7Knead lightly.

8Roll out to 1/4 inch thick.

9Cut with a floured 2 inch biscuit cutter.

10Place half of the rounds on a greased baking sheet.

11Brush with melted butter.

12Place remaining rounds on top

13Brush with melted butter.

14Let rise until doubled in bulk.

15Bake at 425* for 10-12 min or until golden brown.
