- 2 Tbsp. soft shortening
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 c. warm (not hot) water
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 c. sifted flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water; stir in sugar and half the flour. Beat until smooth. Add egg, shortening and remaining flour. Mix well.

2Put out on floured pastry board and knead until smooth, adding enough flour to keep from sticking.

3Put in bowl and let rise until double in size (should take about 45 minutes). Turn out on pastry board, knead lightly and shape into rolls. Place in pan and let rise until doubled.

4Bake in preheated oven at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.

5Makes 18 good-sized rolls.
