Roma Meat Roll

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground meat (beef or turkey)
  • approximately 16 saltines, crushed into crumbs
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. ground oregano
  • 2 c. grated Mozzarella cheese

Directions

    Combine meat, egg, saltines, oregano and 2/3 cup tomato sauce. Mix well.

    Pat meat into rectangle (on wax paper) approximately 12-inches long, 8-inches wide and 1/4-inch thick.

    Sprinkle grated cheese over entire surface of meat to within 1/2-inch of edges. Beginning with long edge of meat, roll into roll as a jelly roll, keeping the ends of the roll closed as you roll.

    Use the wax paper to assist you in forming the roll and transferring to cookie sheet for baking.

    Bake 30 minutes at 375°, then pour remaining 1/3 cup tomato sauce over top.

    Return to oven for 15 more minutes.
