Rouladen(Beef Rolls)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. round steak, cut in 4-inch slices
  • 8 slices bacon, cut in small pieces
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. mustard
  • 4 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch

Directions

    Pound steak to about 1/4 to 3/8-inch thick.

    Salt and pepper steak; spread each piece with mustard.

    Mix bacon and onions together; spread on beef slices.

    Roll slices tightly.

    Tie with string, or fasten with toothpicks.

    Brown in oil.

    Add water. Finish cooking in a 350° oven for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

    Take rolls out.

    Mix cornstarch with a little water.

    Add to drippings in pan.

    Cook to thicken.

    To serve, pour gravy over rolls.
