- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
- 1 c. butter (not margarine)
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. rum or rum extract
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 c. coarsely chopped pecans
Directions

1Combine sugar, buttermilk, syrup, butter and soda in heavy buttered 4-quart saucepan.

2Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.

3Cook, without stirring, to 236°, or until soft ball is formed when small amount is dropped in cold water.

4Remove from heat; add rum or rum extract and salt.

5Beat vigorously until candy thickens and begins to lose its gloss.

6Stir in pecans.

7Drop by teaspoon onto waxed paper.

8Place waxed paper on newspaper and pralines will come up easily.
