  • 1 c. butter, softened by standing at room temperature
  • 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. finely chopped walnuts

    With a spoon, soften butter, gradually creaming in the sugar and vanilla.

    Next, sift together the flour and salt.

    Add walnuts to flour.

    Combine flour and butter mixtures.

    Refrigerate for about 1 hour.

    Roll in hands to 1-inch balls.

    Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 400° for 20 minutes.

    Roll in powdered sugar while still warm.

    Makes about 3 dozen.
