  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 level tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 c. white vinegar
  • 24 whole cloves
  • 3 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 3 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 small cans whole beets, quartered
  • 1 1/2 c. beet juice

    Using large shallow pan, mix sugar and cornstarch well.

    Add vinegar, cloves, ketchup, oil, salt and vanilla and mix well.

    Add beets and beet juice.

    Preheat burner.
