Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. fresh tomatoes (stems removed)
  • 1/2 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 chili
  • 1/2 c. fresh cilantro leaves, loosely packed
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder (add more or less to taste)

Directions

    Chop tomatoes and onion.

    Peel garlic and chop.
  3. 3
    Remove stem and seeds from chili and chop.
  4. 4
    Place tomatoes, onion, garlic, chili and cilantro in blender or food processor container.

    Blend or chop until desired consistency is reached.

    Place mixture in bowl and add lime juice, sugar and chili powder.

    Stir until well blended.

    Serve with tortilla chips, wedges of baked fresh tortillas, as a sauce for cold or hot foods, as a topping for baked potatoes, or as a dressing for salad.
