Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. bacon
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 c. chopped onions
- 1/4 c. grated carrots
- 1/4 c. chopped celery
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/4 lb. ground pork
- 1/2 c. dry wine (white)
- 2 Tbsp. tomato paste
- 3 c. beef broth
- 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 c. heavy cream
- 1/4 lb. mushrooms (optional)
Directions

1Melt butter in saucepan; lightly brown bacon, then take off. Add onions, carrots and celery.

2Cook over low heat 5 minutes. Add the beef and pork (ground together); cook, stirring almost steadily for 5 minutes.

3Mix in the wine and chipped bacon.

4Cook until evaporated.

5Stir in tomato paste, 1 cup broth, pepper and nutmeg.

6Cook over low heat for 15 minutes.

7Add mushrooms and remaining broth.

8Cover and cook over low heat for 45 minutes. Taste for seasoning.

9Mix in heavy cream.

10Serve with pasta.
