  • 1 lb. sausage
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 tsp. each of cloves; cinnamon; nutmeg and allspice
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 c. flour

    Cover the cup of raisins with boiling water and let set. Cream sugar and sausage together.

    Beat in eggs.

    Sift together all dry ingredients.

    Add sugar and sausage mixture alternately with dry ingredients to buttermilk.

    Drain raisins and add raisins and nuts to mixture.

    Pour into greased tube pan and bake 60 to 70 minutes at 350°.

    Top with caramel frosting.
