- 3 teaspoons butter
- 2 teaspoons flour, all-purpose
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 3 cups milk
- 6 medium potatoes pared and thinly slicked
- 2 teaspoons onions chopped
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350F (180C).

2Butter a 2 qt casserole.

3Make a basic white sauce of butter, flour, salt, pepper & milk.

4Place half the potatoes in casserole.

5Cover with half the onion and half the sauce.

6Repeat layers.

7Cover and bake about an hour.

8(I like to cook it a bit longer, about 1 hour and 15 minutes before uncovering it.)

9Test to make sure potatoes are almost, but not quite, fork tender.

10Uncover and bake 30 minutes longer.

11Left over cooked ham layered in the middle makes it almost a one dish meal, and is a good addition...tho I usually serve this with ham to begin with.

12Serves 6 but count on serving 4 with it!
