Ingredients

  • 1 lb. butter (do not use margarine)
  • 6 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. sugar plus 1/2 c. more to sprinkle on top
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch

Directions

    Work all together until it forms a stiff paste.

    Press into a shallow baking pan about 1/2 inch thick and prick all over with a fork.

    Sprinkle lightly with sugar.

    Bake at 375° for 5 minutes, then reduce heat to 300° and continue to bake until golden but not brown (about 20 minutes).

    Serve with anything.
