  • 4 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 (12 oz.) bags chocolate chips (18 oz. altogether)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 1/3 c. evaporated milk or thick powdered Coffee-mate mixed with water
  • 1 (7 oz.) marshmallow (in the jar)
  • 2 c. chopped walnuts or more if you like it nuttier

    Mix butter, sugar, salt and milk together in a large pot and bring to a boil, 245° on candy thermometer. Remove from heat and add marshmallow from the jar. Add the chocolate chips. Blend fast and well by whipping it. Add the vanilla and walnuts. Makes about 4 pounds; fills two 8-inch square pans.
