  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. sherry
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 2 eggs

Directions

    Sift dry ingredients together.

    Add shortening and mix.

    Pour in half of the sherry and water. Beat well.

    Add remaining sherry and eggs. Beat well. Bake in a 13 x 9-inch pan at 350° for 35 minutes.

    Let cool.

    Lightly sift powdered sugar over cake. Serves 12.
