  • 4 c. flour
  • 2 c. light brown sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1 c. molasses (Grandma's or Brer Rabbit)
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. baking soda

Directions

    Make crumbs of first 3 ingredients; reserve 1 cup of crumbs. Mix last 4 ingredients together, then add the crumbs.

    Mix together.

    Sprinkle the reserved cup of crumbs on top.

    Bake at 350° for 45 minutes in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
