- 4 c. flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 c. dark molasses
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. boiling water
Directions

1Mix together flour, sugar and shortening.

2Reserve 1 cup of mixture for on top of cake.

3In another bowl, mix molasses and baking soda.

4Add boiling water slowly, stirring.

5Pour molasses mixture into flour mixture and stir.

6Pour into greased and floured cake pan.

7Sprinkle reserved flour mixture over top.

8Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes.
