- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 c. butter
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- unbaked pie shell (9-inch)
Directions

1Combine first 4 ingredients in bowl.

2Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

3Combine boiling water and molasses and stir in baking soda (mixture will foam).

4Arrange alternate layers of crumb and molasses mixture in pie shell, beginning and ending with crumb mixture.

5Bake in moderate oven at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes, or until top and crust are browned and filling set.

6Cool.

7Serve plain or topped with vanilla ice cream.
