- 1/2 tsp. salt per lb.
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 c. sour cream
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. thyme
- 1 c. tomato
Directions

1Sprinkle a heavy skillet with the salt.

2Place short ribs, fat side down, in skillet and brown on all sides; drain off the excess fat.

3Add onion and brown; combine remaining ingredients except sour cream, then pour them over ribs.

4Cover and simmer slowly for 2 hours or until tender, adding more tomato juice if needed.

5Just before serving, stir in sour cream.

6Serve with buttered noodles and poppy seeds; makes 4 to 6 servings.
