Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • dash of Tabasco sauce
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 lb. peeled shrimp
  • 1/2 c. bell pepper

Directions

    Saute onion, celery and garlic until tender.

    Add tomatoes, tomato sauce and seasonings.

    Simmer, uncovered, for 45 minutes. Mix cornstarch with 2 teaspoons water.

    Add a little of the hot tomato mixture in with the cornstarch and blend.

    Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the sauce, stirring well to blend.

    Add shrimp and bell pepper.

    Cover and simmer until shrimp are done, about 5 minutes.

    Serve over rice.
