- 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
- 1 2/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2/3 c. Crisco
- 1 c. milk
- 5 egg whites
- 1/3 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
Directions

1Combine flour, sugar, salt and baking powder in mixing bowl. Add Crisco and first cup milk called for in the recipe. Beat vigorously by hand or electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add egg whites, additional 1/3 cup milk and lemon flavoring. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Pour into two 9-inch layer pans which have been greased with Crisco and floured. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
