- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 1/2 c. yellow corn meal
- 1/3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3 to 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. milk
- 2 eggs, unbeaten
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. milk
Directions

1Preheat oven to 400°.

2Put butter in 9-inch iron skillet and heat in oven.

3Sift dry ingredients together.

4Stir in 1 cup milk and eggs.

5Stir in buttermilk.

6Pour mixture into skillet.

7Pour 1 cup milk over cornbread mixture.

8Do not stir in!

9Bake for 35 minutes.

10This cornbread has a custard layer.

11Serve hot from skillet with butter.

12Makes 6 servings.
