Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c. extras*

    In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugars.

    Add eggs and vanilla.

    Combine flour, salt and baking soda; add to the creamed mixture and mix well.

    Fold in 1 1/2 cups extras.

    Shape into a 15 inch x 2 inch roll; wrap tightly in plastic wrap.

    Chill 2 hours or up to a week.

    Unwrap and cut into 1/2-inch slices.

    Place 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

    Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Cool 5 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely. Yields 2 1/2 dozen.
