  • 4 ounces butter
  • 4 ounces light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 6 ounces self-rising flour
  • 3 ounces smarties candies (2 to 3 tubes )

    Preheat oven 180 degrees Celsius, gas 4.

    Beat butter and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy.

    Beat in the syrup.

    Work in half the flour.

    Stir in the smarties with the remaining flour.

    Work the dough together with your fingers.

    Divide into 14 balls.

    Place them well apart on a baking sheet; do not flatten.

    Bake for 12 minutes until pale golden at the edges only.

    Cool on a wire rack.
