Ingredients

  • 1 c. soft shortening (part butter and part margarine)
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

    Mix thoroughly the soft shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar and eggs.

    Sift together and stir in the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

    Roll into balls the size of walnuts.

    Roll in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon.

    Place 2 inches apart (they spread a lot).

    Bake until lightly browned, but still soft, at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes.

    (These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out.) Makes 5 dozen.
