  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 3/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. ground nutmeg (if desired)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 60 currants (1 rounded tablespoonful)
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl.

    Add sugar, shortening, 2 eggs, nutmeg, salt and 2 cups flour.

    Beat on low speed, scraping bowl constantly 30 seconds.
