- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1/4 c. butter
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. ginger
- 1 c. sour cream
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 egg, beaten
Directions

1Combine molasses, brown sugar, butter and water in a saucepan; bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring several times.

2Set aside to cool.

3Sift together the flour, baking soda, ginger and nutmeg. When the molasses mixture has cooled to lukewarm, stir it into the flour mixture, beating well with a wooden spoon until it is smooth.

4Add the sour cream, then the egg, mixing well.

5Pour the batter into a buttered and floured 8-inch square pan.

6Bake in a 350° oven for 30 minutes.
