  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • yellow food coloring
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. lemon extract
  • 3 to 4 c. flour

Directions

    Combine sugar, shortening, salt and food coloring; blend thoroughly.

    Add remaining ingredients; mix well.

    Roll out small portions of dough at a time; cut with a biscuit cutter.

    Place on cookie sheet; if desired, sprinkle with sugar over top of cookies. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes.
