Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. or cake yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 4 c. flour (approximately)
  • 1 beaten egg
  • coarse salt

Directions

    Soak yeast in water in large bowl; add salt and sugar.

    Mix in flour to form soft and smooth dough.

    Do not let rise.

    Cut into small pieces.

    With floured hands, roll into ropes and twist into pretzel shape.

    Place on cookie sheet covered with foil and dusted with flour.

    Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with salt.

    Bake at 400° for 15 minutes or until lightly brown.

    Makes 3 to 6 dozen.
