- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 3/4 c. cold water
- oil (for frying)
Directions

1Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.

2Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mealy.

3Add water, a tablespoon at a time, and toss with a fork to blend.

4Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.

5Roll out as thin as possible. Cut into 2 or 3-inch squares and fry in hot oil, 370°, until puffed and browned.

6Makes 20 to 30, depending on size.

7Serve warm with cinnamon sugar or syrup, if desired.
