  • 1 pkg. yeast, dissolved in tiny amount of warm water
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening

Directions

    Put dissolved yeast into buttermilk.

    Sift flour, sugar, baking soda and salt together.

    Add buttermilk and shortening; mix together and beat well.

    Roll out on lightly floured board to 1/2-inch thickness.

    Cut place in baking pan.

    Let raise to desired thickness.

    Bake at 425° for approximately 20 minutes or less (to desired brownness).
