- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 2 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. cold water
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.

2Measure flour, salt and sugar into gallon jar (will bubble to four times its volume).

3Stir in yeast and cold water.

4Cover with cheesecloth.

5Let stand in warm place (80° to 90° is ideal), stirring down daily, 3 or 4 days.

6It should have pleasantly sour odor.

7Starter is ready. Use at once or store tightly covered in refrigerator in quart jar.
