  • 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

    Preheat oven to 450°.

    In a medium bowl, mix flours, baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

    With a pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.

    With a fork, stir in milk just until mixture forms a soft dough and leaves side of bowl.

    On a lightly floured surface, with floured hands, knead dough 10 times.

    Pat dough into a 5 x 5-inch square.

    Cut into four 2 1/2 x 2 1/2-inch squares.

    Cut each square into 2 triangles. Place triangles, about 1/2-inch apart, on a large cookie sheet. Brush with beaten egg and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
