  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2/3 c. milk

Directions

    Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar into bowl.

    Add the shortening to the flour mixture to blend together until of cornmeal-like consistency.

    Pour milk into flour mixture slowly.

    Add egg.

    Stir to a stiff dough.

    Knead five times.

    Roll to 1/2-inch thickness.

    Cut with 1 1/2-inch cutter. Bake on an aluminum cookie sheet for 10 to 15 minutes at 450°.
