  • 4 c. water
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. each: cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. nuts

    Add cold water to the raisins and boil 10 minutes.

    Add the shortening and let cool.

    Sift together the sugar, spices, flour and salt.

    Add nuts and the cooled mixture.

    Add the beaten egg and blend well.

    Bake for 35 minutes at 350° in two 10 x 15-inch pans.
