  • 1/2 loaf salt rising bread
  • 2 qt. tomatoes
  • 1 small green pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 to 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. oleo or butter
  • Parmesan cheese (1/4 c. or more)
  • 1/2 tsp. butter

Directions

    Break bread and place in a 9 x 10-inch baking dish. Cut onion and pepper into 1-inch slices.

    Add sugar and bread to tomatoes. Pour over bread.

    Shake Parmesan cheese on tomatoes and bake at 350° for 1 hour, then stir. Bake 1/2 hour more.

    Place 2 or 3 slices Mozzarella cheese and let melt.
