Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 2 c. warm broth (chicken or beef)
  • 1/2 c. powdered milk
  • 1/4 c. margarine or hamburger grease
  • 1/4 c. honey
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. corn meal
  • 1 c. wheat germ
  • 2 c. cracked wheat
  • 4 to 5 c. whole wheat flour

Directions

    In small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

    In large bowl, combine broth, powdered milk, margarine, honey, egg and salt.

    Add yeast and water and mix well.

    Stir in all-purpose flour, wheat germ, cornmeal and cracked wheat; mix well.

    Add whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each.

    Knead in final amounts and continue kneading 4 to 5 minutes until not sticky. Roll out to 1/2-inch thick and cut into shapes.

    Place on greased sheet and let set 20 minutes.

    Bake in 350° oven for 45 minutes. Turn off heat and leave in oven for several hours or overnight.
